Midland’s Garden Office Winner Encourages People to Enter Awards

Last year Amanda Farren from Coventry, in West Midlands, had her working life completely changed when she won her very own Penthouse Garden Office worth £10k. With this week’s announcement that the 2010 Remote Worker AwardAmanda won a home office in the Remote Worker Awardss, in association with BT Business, is now open, Amanda encourages West Midlands people to enter.
Amanda entered the Remote Worker Awards after seeing such a fantastic range of prizes up for grabs, although she had never expected to get to the finals, let alone win such a high value prize.
Crushing the teenage mum stereotype, Amanda has challenged many people’s perceptions on young parents. Entering, and then going on to win an award, has made a huge impact on Amanda both personally and professionally, who has been given a much needed, confidence boost.
Amanda struggled with her confidence, mainly down to her age, but now her win has transformed the way she perceives herself and has ensured her business continues to flourish.
Amanda said: "When I entered the Remote Worker Awards I never imagined I would win such a fantastic award and a life changing prize. I heard that I had made it through to the final whilst out of the house, and literally jumped up and down in the shopping centre. Everybody who works remotely in some form should definitely enter the 2010 awards.”
Amanda encourages everyone in The Midlands to enter and will be submitting nominations for some deserving remote workers she knows. This year someone will win an OfficePOD, which can be placed in an office, garden or pretty much any small space.

Award winning website, Remote Employment, Google’s No 1 job site for flexible and home based jobs, launched The Remote WorkeAmanda won a home office in the Remote Worker Awards r Awards in association with BT Business to highlight how home working and remote working benefits the British public and their working life.

The Remote Worker Awards Sets Up Young Devon Woman In Business

Abbe Martin won a home based franchise in the Remote Worker Awards

Last year Abbe Martin from Exeter, in Devon, had her life completely changed in the prestigious Remote Worker Awards Ceremony when she was crowned as the winner of her own home based business worth £15k. With this week’s announcement that the 2010 Remote Worker Awards is once again open, Abbe encourages young people to enter.

Abbe entered the 2009 Remote Worker Awards, in association with BT Business, and competed against many people to win the Helen O' Grady special award. This life changing award saw her being given her own company and overnight Abbe was a new business owner.

Although the judges had the difficult task of deciding between the top favourites, the decision was unanimous - Abbe was the outright winner to become a Helen O’Grady Principal and run her own exclusive territory.

Abbe’s extensive background in Drama working within her local community as a volunteer, to keep her passion alive, impressed the judges immediately and she leapt ahead to the finals. Her love of children and recognition of how they can benefit from a self-development programme was key to her winning this award and a £15k drama-academy franchise.

Abbe Martin is now the now the proud principal of Helen O' Grady Exeter, which launched in January 2010. Helen O'Grady is a worldwide Drama Academy that has been running successfully for 30 years and Abbe is thrilled to be part of this organisation.

Abbe said: "I would encourage anyone to enter this Award. You have every chance of success if you really believe in yourself and you want it enough. I got to meet some inspirational Entrepreneurs such as Karen Darby, whose business advice will stay with me forever. It is a scary to go out there on your own, but it is worth it when you start to reap the benefits and can feel really proud of yourself. A little fear is better than a lot of regret. So go for it!"

On the way

I'm very excited to be shortlisted for the Women on Their Way Awards in the Online Business Category.

It’s a fantastic achievement to have got this far and now I am bidding against some other fabulous entrants including Iveta Tankeva from Mums Like You, Tabitha Potts from Mi Mi Myne and Anna Isaacs from Office Lifeline.

Even though I am up against them to win the final, I am really looking forward to meeting these successful businesswomen! And, all the other women in the 11 other categories. The Awards Ceremony at Aston Villa is going to be fab! Can’t wait!

Of course, I aim to win, but to be a finalist in this category is an honour for me and for my business Remote Employment and The Remote Worker Awards!

Dreams do come true!

After many years of writing novels and screenplays, I dipped my hand into the business book market and I have now been offered a publishing deal!

As a business woman on the move, I am often asked to talk at seminars or conferences on the subject of creating a successful website presence.

Then, late last year after talking at The Everywoman Conference in London, I was very inspired by the fantastic group of women who came to talk to me. On the train home I decided to give it a whirl to see if I can get a publisher for the idea of a beginners guide to creating an online business.

It happened much quicker than I thought as the concept of the book was well received.

I will also be creating a website for the book and reviewing different instant web sites and website building software.

At the moment, the book details can be viewed on my blog: http://paulawynne.wordpress.com/writer/online-diy-in-30-days/ but this will be updated as the book gets going.

I am now working avidly to get the book finished in time for an Autumn launch, in the meantime I am already taking bookings for speaking opportunities for my book launch.

Thank you to everyone I know who has encouraged and supported me over the years!

Regards
Paula

So, installation was easy as expected, let’s see how we get on in the next few days with setting up a brand, spanking new site with Web Easy 8! Have a peek for yourself here: http://webeasy.avanquest.com/UK/

Work from home video

For anyone who wants to work from home, have a look at this video on You Tube: http://tinyurl.com/ybf3xme

How to set up a home office ...

Before you set up a work station at home, check out our Seven Top Tips on how to work from home:

Your Home Office
Ideally, you will have a spare room to create a home office. If not, a corner of another room, will be fine as long as you are not constantly distracted in the family fast lane. Set up your kitSet up your computer, files and phone to give you maximum comfort for long hours. Have enough plug points for PC, printer, phone, scanner, mobile charger, fax machine and answer phone. Even better get an all in once mod con to save on a jumble of cables and wires.

Pick your desk location
You should be able to see the door of the office from where you are sitting or at least more of your surroundings. Beware of facing the garden and the bird bath – too tempting to watch the world go by! A hard chair will give you backache so spend a little extra on a good one.

Working Hours
Working outside 'normal' working hours helps to balance your work and home life so don't feel guilty dashing off to take the lads to footie after school, as long as you get your work done. Catching up in the early morning or later in the evening works well, but also watch out for going OTT. Make sure you close down and walk away at some point or the family will go hungry.

Have a breather
No matter what kind of work you do or what home you do it in, you can go bonkers if you spend 24 hours a day at it. Get out, whenever you can, to clear your head and to see other people. Use lunch time as a good break to pop down to pick up groceries for dinner, step outside to feed the birds during your coffee break or walk the dog around the block to clear the cobwebs. This is also a great way to mull over a document or get inspiration for new ideas.

Keep in Touch
Have no fear that your social life at work comes to an end if you leave your office to work from home, in fact in some cases your relationship with your colleagues may improve. Email is instant but be careful of 'funnies' – they can eat up a huge chunk of time. Chat through business issues by phone and meet for a quick bite every now and then.

Goal scoring
Give yourself little goals and objectives and then reward yourself when they are complete. Make sure family and friends know your hours or days of working at home and stick to that. Don't be tempted to pop over for a coffee or cook a large meal. Give yourself this time as a reward for getting up early on a Monday to finish a long-winded report. Or if you score well with a new client take five to put your feet up before the school run. Whatever incentives work for you, use them to motivate yourself to balance your time around your other responsibilities.
